ROISIN O’HAGAN – ‘DRIVE’ & ‘MISS YOU LIKE JUNE’

Starting off some of our favourite moments of 2018 are two songs and they come from Roisin O’Hagan. Yes, we may be a little bias (after all, we do record and release them) but Roisin has had her most successful year to date by far. From releasing Drive and Miss You Like June, to gaining praise from the likes of BBC Introducing, Maverick Magazine and Chris Country.

Roisin also made it into the final of Fender Undiscovered 2018 where she was handed a bright red Fender acoustic guitar, which has become part of her distinctive sound and image on stage.

We love producing Roisin’s music and releasing it into the world. There are some very special things planned for 2019 and you won’t want to miss them.

CAROUSEL – CHINNERYS

Carousel are one of the finest bands to come out of Southend for quite some time and we are huge fans of what they do. They embarked on their first headline tour a few months ago which included a hometown date at Chinnerys. We can’t wait to hear their warming harmonies, foot stomping songs and heartfelt lyrics in 2019.

ASYLUMS – ROUGH TRADE EAST

Asylums are one of the loudest, most outrageous bands on the Essex music scene and have been for a number of years now. Their commercial blend of high energy rock has taken them all around the country, had multiple plays on the likes of BBC 6 Music and Radio X as well as receiving praise from the UK’s finest national music press.

Asylums kick 2019 off with a support slot for Iggy Pop, which isn’t exactly a bad place to start is it? We can’t wait to hear more from these guys next year.

WRITE LIKE A GIRL

Earlier this year Emily Faye, Vic Allen and Beth Keeping took to the road for their Write Like A Girl UK tour. A fantastic idea showcasing female singer/songwriters in a Nashville style writers round. We caught the London show at St Mary’s Church, a truly wonderful setting. Joined by Lisa Wright and Sue McMillan, we got a little insight into their songwriting process and of course got to hear all of the artists at their best.

ART WILL FALL PRESENTS

This is something that has been on the cards for a while now, but it’s hard to find the right place and time to start it off. Saturday 12th January marks the first Art Will Fall Presents show at Peggy Sue’s in Leigh-on-Sea, Southend with Calum Lintott, Roisin O’Hagan and Owen Williams. We can’t wait for this – please do go and find out more here.

ROOSKIN AND TUGBOAT CAPTAIN – PEGGY SUE’S

Keeping on the theme of Peggy Sue’s, a little night in the summer saw Rooskin make their mark. The guys blasted out their anthemic indie-pop tracks and brought a huge sense of fun to the Leigh-on-Sea venue. Of course, the other main act were Tugboat Captain who were crazy in the most exciting way possible.

SOSLAM PRESENTS AT CHINNERYS

We’ll throw it back to March now and we’ll also keep it local. SoSlam presents at Chinnerys with The Lucky Strikes, Darren Jones and the World Music Band, Doojip and Roisin O’Hagan.

What. A. Night.

GREG HOLDEN – LIVE AT ST PANCRAS OLD CHURCH

As much as we love to focus on local, up and coming artists, we do also love artists from further afield. Greg Holden is a British singer/songwriter that I have followed for years and even though he now lives in L.A., he does tour all over from time to time.

His acoustic show at St Pancras Old Church in London was something truly special. New songs and old, a wonderful crowd singing every line and a great insight to his music. Definitely one of my favourite shows of the year and when he returns to the UK again, he is well worth going to see live.

OUR LIVE SESSIONS

The Art Will Fall Live Sessions have been one of the most exciting things that we have done this year. We have had various artists come into our studio to record stripped back, acoustic versions of their songs that are filmed on camera. I personally have a huge passion for recording and making music, meaning that the live sessions will be expanding next year with lots more to offer for artists. We can’t wait to unveil our plans.

Watch our current live session videos here.

We wouldn’t be a true music blog without celebrating all of the artists that we have worked with this year and all of the incredible tracks that have made it onto our site or one of our playlists. We have put together a Best of 2018 playlist with many of our favourites which you listen to below:
